Ex-IIT Delhi duo Anurag Dod and Gaurav Misra has launched a new local seach engine aimed at Indian web consumers called Guruji.com. Leading Indian venture capital firm Sequoia Capital has invested $ 7 million (Rs.31.5 crore) as seed funding to the venture. Aimed at the Indian web consumer, Guruji.com claims to provide better search results by leveraging proprietary algorithms and data in the Indian context. The company has built its data centre in US with 40 servers to index Indian websites to provide locally relevant results to search queries related to India using proprietary algorithms for intelligent mapping of entire database. Crawl technology used by Guruji.com crawls the web to identify Indian content on a regular basis. “The technology is built on a distributed architecture and crawls the web, indexes the data that it gathers and provides the user with a simple keyword based interface to get to the data quickly and efficiently” said Gaurav Mishra, Co-Founder & COO, Guruji.com while elaborating on the search technology used by the company. The company is targeting $50 million Indian search engine advertisement market using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) revenue model. It may be noted that according to a study done by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) there are about 65 million people who use search engines in India regularly.
